Soma Massage Therapy is committed to Denton and we want to give back every day — because we know that a healthy and strong community is vital to the health and strength of our clients too!
Each month, Soma sponsors a different local agency and provides tangible goods such as canned food, toiletries, diapers, etc, in order to support that particular agency’s work in our community. We’re counting on YOU to make this work, so please bring an item on their “wish list” this month — even if you don’t have an appointment scheduled with us, you can still be entered to win a free one hour massage just for participating! Thank you for your helping hands!
This month’s Massage-for-a-Cause partner:
The food pantries at UNT and TWU.
I’ll be honest: all the talk about “stocking up” to be prepared for the coronavirus has me feeling anxious. Not about the virus itself, but about the scarcity…
I spent many years of my childhood living in poverty. We drank powdered milk and brushed our teeth with baking soda. Many if not most meals were provided by government assistance and food pantries. We couldn’t afford toilet paper, and used rags or newspaper instead. I’m proud of my single mom who did her best to keep us nourished and filled our hearts with love, even when our bellies were empty. And now that we’re having a national conversation about having back up supplies for WEEKS, I’m feeling that same anxiety and uncertainty I did as kid.
My financial situation is vastly different now as an adult, and my family is well stocked for anything that comes our way. But as I think about all those families whose every day life mirrors the life I lived as a child, I worry for their sustenance.
So — for as long as is necessary — we are collecting supplies for the UNT and TWU food pantries, to make sure that folks in our community will have the supplies they need to be prepared as well.
Keep in mind, too: as a child, I LOVED getting things like spaghetti-o’s, macaroni and cheese, and pudding cups! Though we will still accept that dusty can of tomato sauce that’s been sitting in the back of your pantry, the intention behind this program is to pay-it-forward, and to think of others’ needs too. So be generous! Tuna fish and quinoa make great high-protein staples and taste way better than creamed corn!
Bring your donated items to Soma Massage Therapy and you’ll be entered to win a FREE 1 hour massage or a Soma t-shirt!
